In the heart of Kaohsiung's Yancheng traditional market, "覓得居" stands as an exhibition and sales center, open for a month-long showcase.

A playful phonetic nod to "MidJourney,"

Represents a (Un)Real estate venture, with images and text crafted using generative AI tools.

The notion of "有土斯有財" (owning land equals possessing wealth) is deeply rooted in Asian culture. In Taiwan's thriving real estate landscape, there appears to be a certain logic in marketing newly built properties. They entice with an image of "distant beauty," bearing names like "Manor de Montmartre," "World of Paris," and "Vienna Garden," conjuring dreams of faraway places. It seems we find ourselves living in distant fantasies, is the way we could reach that nobility.

I believe this phenomenon arises from the identity challenges of being Taiwanese. Passing from the early immigrant ancestors, to the offsprings nowadays, not only self-identity crisis is bothering, also difficulties to own a house brings a perpetual sense of powerlessness. With the advent of AI creativity and heightened productivity in 2023, another existential pressure has emerged. When it comes to seeking a place to call home, it appears much like "覓得居,"(Seeking a place to stay) it is an (Un)real estate that exists only in imagination.

Where this Project was held

The showcase center's location, "正白#FFFFFF", operates independently as an art space within the Yancheng traditional market. Its storefront design maximizes the use of triangular windows. Every month, diverse exhibitions take place behind the glass walls. "正白#FFFFFF" is not an official museum; it is nestled amidst local businesses. I define art as a form of cognitive transmission, and the primary mode of exchange in this market is the transaction of buying and selling. "覓得居," as a project, partakes in conceptual transactions within this space.
